Five-place gearbox penalty for de la Rosa

Five-place gearbox penalty for de la Rosa

22 September 2012

Pedro de la Rosa will almost certainly start Sunday’s Singapore Grand Prix from the back of the grid, having been handed a five-place grid drop for a gearbox change.

As the HRT driver was expected to achieve no more than 23rd place, judging by the Spanish team’s pace in Friday practice, he will now fall to the back.

To save money, each gearbox must last for five race weekends and any chance during that period will warrant a penalty.

Other than this setback, Marina Bay is bringing positives for HRT as the Madrid-based operation runs new floors on the cars of de la Rosa and Narain Karthikeyan.
