Vettel unable to hide disappointment with third
22 September 2012 – Sebastian Vettel not only missed out on pole position for the Singapore Grand Prix, but was beaten by Pastor Maldonado on Saturday night. The World Champion, who had locked out all three practice sessions, will start on Row 2 alongside Jenson Button.
Although the Lewis Hamilton threat had been present since the race weekend began, Vettel and Red Bull did not expect a Williams to out-qualify them in Marina Bay.
“Yeah a little disappointed, especially as I don’t know why we couldn’t do the step in Q3,” the German said in the post-Q3 FIA press conference.
“Nevertheless, I think third is a good position to start from. We have improved throughout the weekend but obviously it’s a shame if you can’t do the last step in qualifying because I’m sure the speed was there – we just couldn’t do the time in the end.”
Confirming a troublesome night for Red Bull, Mark Webber could muster no more than seventh position and will start on the fourth row alongside Romain Grosjean’s Lotus.
