Fernando Alonso will start the Singapore Grand Prix from fifth position, ahead of Mark Webber and Kimi Räikkönen but behind Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel. On what is a weekend of damage limitation for Ferrari, the Spaniard targets a podium finish.
“We have been struggling all weekend, so I think we have to be happy with this position,” Alonso said after qualifying on Saturday night. “For pole, the McLaren was unbeatable.
“We will start fifth and on the inside line, so from there we should be in a good position to fight for the podium – and that is probably the maximum for us this weekend.”
Team-mate Felipe Massa is not likely to be in a position to aid Alonso, as the Brazilian was knocked out of Q2 and will line up only 13th at the start.
