Karthikeyan lamenting lack of practice sessions
1 October 2012 – Already driving what is statistically Formula 1’s slowest car, Narain Karthikeyan has been handed another challenge throughout the 2012 season as Dani Clos and Ma Qing Hua drive his HRT in Friday’s opening practice sessions. For the Indian, this is just another obstacle thrown into an already difficult race weekend.
“From Silverstone until up to Hungary, the second practice was wet,” Karthikeyan, who debuted in F1 with Jordan in 2005 before returning with HRT last year, told F1Pulse. “So with Saturday morning to do one hour and then try to qualify, it's pretty difficult.
“Those circuits like Germany, Hungary and Spa, I haven't driven since 2005. You know where it goes, that's about it, but after seven years it's impossible to remember the bumps and the little tricks and everything. It takes a while before you settle down - that has been the biggest problem.”
The lack of practice time has made a significant contribution towards the fact that Karthikeyan has been out-qualified by Pedro de la Rosa 12-2 so far this season.
