Mallya: Catching Sauber is still possible

2 October 2012

Vijay Mallya believes Force India can still overhaul Sauber for sixth place in this year’s championship. After Singapore, where Paul di Resta finished in a career-best fourth position, the Anglo-Indian outfit sits 26 points behind their Swiss rivals.

Prior to 2012, Force India had aimed to improve on its sixth place of 2011 by moving into the top five. It is now hoping to match its achievement of last season and has already scored six more points than it managed across the whole of the year.

“I still remember the situation in 2010 when Williams pipped us by one point at the last race, so I guess it’s not over until it’s over!” says Mallya, Team Principal and Managing Director. “I’m still hoping that we can do it and one strong podium finish could help to wipe out Sauber’s advantage. It all depends how strong our rivals are in the final six races, but we certainly have some momentum.”

At the Marina Bay night race last time out, Sauber was able to score only a single point with Sergio Pérez when Red Bull’s Mark Webber received a post-race time penalty.
