Massa ‘to race without worrying’

Massa ‘to race without worrying’

2 October 2012

A calm Felipe Massa heads to Suzuka claiming to think only about the Japanese Grand Prix, as opposed to his future in Formula 1. The Brazilian’s career prospects have been a hot topic with the media since before the start of the season.

With what many thought was the most likely candidate to replace him – Sauber’s Sergio Pérez – now signed at McLaren for 2012, new reports hint that either Paul di Resta or Nico Hülkenberg of Force India could join Fernando Alonso next year. There are also suggestions that Alonso is keen to keep Massa in the team and other drivers, such as Caterham’s Heikki Kovalainen, could still be possible contenders.

“Of course my future is important, but right now it’s the results that are the most important thing which means I have to concentrate on each race as it comes,” Massa says on the Ferrari website.

“I know what I can do, what I can give to the team and what my talents are. The team also knows this because I’ve been here with them for rather longer than a day or even a year! The best plan is to race without worrying about the future.”

Massa clinched pole on his first Ferrari visit to Suzuka in 2006, then went on to finish second to Alonso who was then driving for Renault.
