Rosberg: Schumacher exit a big loss for F1
4 October 2012 – Nico Rosberg is one of a string of drivers to express their sadness at Michael Schumacher’s departure from Formula 1. The seven-time World Champion has partnered the ex Williams man at Mercedes since the start of the 2010 season.
With Lewis Hamilton joining ex karting team-mate Rosberg at Mercedes next year, Schumacher announced his second F1 retirement at Suzuka on Thursday.
“This is a big loss for our sport,” Rosberg says. “Michael did a huge amount to make Formula 1 so popular in Germany and lots of fans switched on their TV sets because of him. He achieved so much. It has been and continues to be something special and a great experience for me to drive with him and against him.
“In the last three years we pushed the team hard together which will help us in the years to come. I wish him all the best for the future.”
Schumacher’s decision came while seated alongside Mercedes’ Ross Brawn and Norbert Haug in a fully packed press conference ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix.
