I wanted Michael to continue, says Vettel
4 October 2012 – Sebastian Vettel admits that he would have liked Michael Schumacher to stay in Formula 1 for at least one more season. His German compatriot announced a second retirement from the sport on Thursday.
The two Germans, good friends off the track, have spent three seasons of racing together on it since the seven-time World Champion returned to racing in 2010.
“It’s a big loss, it’s a shame,” Vettel said at Suzuka. “There’s a lot of people who wanted Michael to carry on, including myself. Hopefully he’ll take up some other role, so at least we’ll get to see him from time to time.”
Vettel heads to Japan as the most recent F1 winner, having triumphed in Singapore two weekends ago. Second in the championship, he sits 29 points behind Fernando Alonso.
