Pic fined after Hamilton practice incident

2012 Japanese Formula 1 Grand Prix: Saturday qualifying results

Marussia’s Charles Pic has received an official reprimand from FIA race stewards after nearly causing an accident in final practice for the Japanese Grand Prix. The moment also resulted in a fine of 5,000 euros (£4,000).

In Saturday morning’s practice, which takes place before qualifying, Pic was coasting into the chicane on the racing line when Lewis Hamilton shot out of 130R. The McLaren driver was forced to dive to the inside in order to avoid what would have been massive contact, with stewards immediately looking into the moment.

The driver representative adjudicator for Suzuka this weekend is Derek Warwick.

Pic’s reprimand follows a sentence to perform community service for the FIA, which was issued after the rookie overtook under red flags during practice in Singapore.
