Di Resta left to lament clutch problem

2012 Japanese Formula 1 Grand Prix: Sunday race results

While Force India team-mate Nico Hülkenberg scored six points for seventh place in the Japanese Grand Prix, despite a five-place gearbox penalty, Paul di Resta struggled to 12th position. The Scot could only regret early-race technical problems.

“Something broke, the clutch, on the beginning of the parade lap,” he explained. “I was a bit hesitant during the crashes at the start, but I kept it on the road slowly. We weren’t the quickest out there but there’s not much you can do.

“Sometimes that’s just the situation you’re in and it’s one of those things. It’s happened before to Nico and now it’s happened to me, so it cost us points.”

Three quarters of the way through the 2012 Formula 1 season, di Resta sits 12th in the standings – two positions and seven points ahead of Hülkenberg.
