Jenson Button did not feature in Korea’s top ten shootout, having been removed from the action in Q2 for the third time this season. The 2009 World Champion will start 11th and is therefore the highest-placed driver who can choose his tyres for Sunday.
“The reason why my first run wasn’t quick in Q2 is because I locked up the front-left and it cost me quite a bit of time,” he explained to reporters. “I wasn’t too worried because I thought the time was easy to fine but, yeah…yellow flag and that was it.
“My long runs were very good yesterday, so I’m disappointed to be so far back but we’ll see.”
The yellow flag had come out when the Toro Rosso of Daniel Ricciardo ground to a halt with a gearbox problem. Button starts eight places behind third-placed McLaren team-mate Lewis Hamilton.
