Lotus to open Circuit of the Americas
19 October 2012 – Lotus will become the first team to drive the newly-constructed Circuit of the Americas venue in Austin, Texas next month. 1978 Formula 1 World Champion Mario Andretti will be joined by actor Patrick Dempsey and Lotus reserve driver Jérôme d'Ambrosio, with all three men completing demonstration runs with the outfit's 2010 R30.
Andretti will officially open the circuit, with his outing set to mark his first run in a modern F1 car since retiring from the sport in 1982. Dempsey, a racing driver and actor best known for his role as Dr. Derek Shepherd in the American television series Grey's Anatomy, will also enjoy mileage before handing over to d'Ambrosio.
The 2012 United States Grand Prix marks the first Formula 1 race in America since 2007, when Lewis Hamilton triumphed at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
