Coulthard to join Race of Champions
24 October 2012 – David Coulthard is the latest driver to sign up for this year’s Race of Champions, taking place in Thailand for the first time. The BBC Formula 1 pundit, who has raced in DTM since 2010, this month announced his retirement from motor racing.
This year’s annual event will be staged between 14-16 December, with the action taking place in the Rajamangala Stadium of Thai capital city Bangkok.
“This will be my eighth Race of Champions and it’s a pleasure to take part,” says the 13-time Grand Prix winner. “The main draw is the camaraderie between the drivers and all the social events outside the cars, but the racing is always exciting.
“In the Nations Cup you never want to let your team-mate down, then you have the individual event. Looking at how I got on at Wembley, it seems I do better after I’ve just retired from something! That time I made the final, so maybe this year in Bangkok I can finish the job.”
Coulthard has become a familiar face on the BBC since the start of 2009, when the corporation won UK viewing rights back from ITV.
