Caterham names van der Garde and Rossi for test

25 October 2012

Caterham is the latest Formula 1 team to finalise its line-up for next month’s Young Driver test in Abu Dhabi. The Leafield-based squad will be running reserve drivers Giedo van der Garde (top) and Alexander Rossi between 6 and 8 November.

The post-race Yas Marina outing will mark yet more running for GP2’s van der Garde, who is also contesting all remaining Friday first practice sessions of 2012 bar that of the new United States Grand Prix in Texas.

“Giedo has had a very strong year with our GP2 team Caterham Racing, winning twice and recording two podium finishes,” says Caterham F1 CEO Cyril Abiteboul.

“Alexander has had a decent season with Arden Caterham in Renault 3.5, one of his highlights being Monaco where he finished fifth. Picking Giedo and Alexander for the Abu Dhabi test is a good reward for their hard work in 2012, but it also gives us two drivers who know the team and understand how to get what’s needed.”

The test will mark Rossi’s first F1 running since May.

“I want to thank Caterham for the opportunity once again to take part in the Young Driver Test in Abu Dhabi,” the American begins. “I’ve had a good year with the team as and, on top of the FP1 I did in Spain, this is another chance to add more F1 experience at a track I know well, having raced there several times in the past.”

With four races remaining in 2012, Caterham is now hoping for an 11th place race finish to be able to seize back tenth position in the Constructors’ Championship.
