Räikkönen has second thoughts on title chances

25 October 2012
2012 Indian Formula 1 Grand Prix

Kimi Räikkönen has clarified his thoughts of earlier this week, admitting that a late-season charge to clinch the title will be far more difficult than in 2007. Then driving for Ferrari, he pipped McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso.

“We do still have a chance but this is a different life to 2007,” the Finn said in India on Thursday.

“With that car in 2007, we knew we were capable of winning all of the races left. Right now, we don’t really have the fastest car to try and win; nevertheless, we will of course keep trying to try and win this.”

Räikkönen, nearing the end of his first Formula 1 season since 2009, is yet to clinch victory with Lotus but sits third in the championship by virtue of his consistency.

“This is a different situation,” he reiterated following more comparisons with 2007. “If we can improve the car now, we can see what happens…”
