Hamilton to meet Ron Dennis in Abu Dhabi

25 October 2012

Lewis Hamilton has now broken a several week-long silence with former Team Principal Ron Dennis. It was the latter, now Chairman of the McLaren Group, who hired the then up-and-coming karter at the age of seven.

With Hamilton having confirmed that he will switch to the Mercedes works team in 2013, the 2008 World Champion is now set to meet up with Dennis once again.

“I haven’t sat down and spoken to anybody, just because we’re still in the motion of the year,” Hamilton told The Telegraph. “It’s not the end yet, so it’s important to try and keep the motivation high. I’ve spoken to Ron and…me and Ron, we’re planning to meet up, I think it’s in Abu Dhabi. We’ll go for dinner and have a good chat.”

Reflecting on his McLaren career since winning the title, Hamilton continued:

“I’m very sad that we’ve not been able to win another World Championship. As a team, I feel like we’ve been good enough to have done so and I feel that I’m good enough to have done so. For whatever reason, it hasn’t happened and I’m not going to complain. Now we just need to try and help the team win the constructors’ title.

“To go out on a high would be fantastic.”

With four events still to run, Hamilton sits fourth in the standings but – having finished tenth in Korea two weekends ago – he is now only one point ahead of Mark Webber.
