Gutiérrez replaces recovering Pérez in first practice

26 October 2012
2012 Indian Formula 1 Grand Prix: Friday

Sauber reserve driver Esteban Gutiérrez will be driving the opening practice session for the Indian Grand Prix, with Mexican compatriot Sergio Pérez having been taken ill.

Pérez arrived at the Buddh International Circuit as usual, but began to feel unwell on Thursday and was taken back to the hotel before his day’s work was over. Gutiérrez, who will also be testing for the team in Abu Dhabi next month, therefore steps in.

‘This should help Sergio's speedy recovery so he is able to drive for the remainder of the weekend,’ a statement reads from Sauber on Thursday morning.

Gutiérrez remains a candidate for a full-time Sauber race seat in 2013, with others being Jaime Alguersuari, Adrian Sutil and Charles Pic as well as Kamui Kobayashi.
