2012 Indian Formula 1 Grand Prix: Friday second free practice results

Although he and Mark Webber laid down a heavy gauntlet in India on Friday, Sebastian Vettel believes rivals such as Ferrari or McLaren could still threaten for pole position at the Buddh International Circuit. At this stage of the season, qualifying at the front of the field – with less chances of becoming tangled up in start line incidents – is critical.

“I’m not sure it’s only between Mark and I,” Vettel told reporters in the paddock. “Fridays are always difficult on circuits like this and you’re always much quicker with a newer set of tyres than an older one. Let’s first focus on the final practice session tomorrow…”

Webber agreed with his team-mate, but did admit that there is a ‘good chance’ of Red Bull claiming the top spot in the grid-deciding session of Saturday afternoon. Today, Vettel’s best lap time of 1:26.221 was six tenths of a second quicker than third-placed Fernando Alonso.
