Sebastian Vettel is yet to find out why he had to stop on the slow-down lap after qualifying third for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. In final practice earlier on Saturday, the World Champion had lost all but five minutes as the team attended to brake issues.
“I don’t know why I had to stop, but I was asked to,” the German explained. “It shouldn’t be anything major. Practice was not ideal, but in qualifying we were able to set good pace. McLaren was out of touch today, though, so I’m not entirely happy.
“I should have been a bit quicker because Mark (Webber) is ahead of me. All in all, I’m quite happy and the race pace should be good. A lot can still happen.”
The result marks the first time Vettel has failed to qualify on the front row at Yas Marina since Abu Dhabi debuted in F1 three years ago.
