Nico Rosberg was left satisfied after Saturday’s qualifying session for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, with the Mercedes driver having beaten both Romain Grosjean and Felipe Massa. He reached as high as fifth on the timesheets but, as he elected to pit early in Q3 and thus save tyres, he slipped back to eighth position and the back half of Row 4.
“Qualifying worked out well for us, as P8 was our target and we were able to achieve that position,” Rosberg confirmed. “I'm ahead of a Ferrari and a Lotus, so that's a good step and we have made some improvements with our setup work this weekend.
“Thanks to my mechanics, who did a great job to fix an issue with the brakes just before qualifying and make sure that the car was ready in time. It won't be an easy task for us to move up the field, but I'm looking forward to the race and to seeing what we can achieve.”
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix begins at 5pm local time (GMT +4) and can be tracked through the interactive GPUpdate.net Live Report.
