Magny-Cours favourite for French GP

7 November 2012

The Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours has emerged as the favourite to host a French Grand Prix if the event returns to the calendar in 2013. This is according to Bernie Ecclestone, CEO of the Formula One Group, all but ruling out a race at Paul Ricard.

Following the postponement of the Grand Prix of America in New Jersey to 2014, a possible replacement was looked into. France promptly became the country of choice and Paul Ricard the most talked about venue. However, Ecclestone told Germany's Auto Motor und Sport that: "If we go to France, we will go to Magny-Cours."

Magny-Cours last hosted a French Grand Prix in 2008. Since then, the venue has undergone a major refurbishment and hosted a three-day rookie test earlier this year.
