Romain Grosjean and Lotus will take a five-place grid drop for a gearbox change ahead of qualifying for the US Grand Prix. At Sauber, Sergio Pérez has not been penalised following a clumsy Practice 3 coming together with Charles Pic’s Marussia.
Grosjean was forced to end his morning running early as Lotus attended to the gearbox issue. A penalty had been feared and this was confirmed when the unit was eventually changed.
The Pérez-Pic clash seemed more clear cut, with the Sauber driver having spun the Marussia following a lurid dive down the inside. Having reviewed the moment, stewards including ex World Champion Emerson Fittipaldi felt that the clash was a ‘racing incident’.
