Hülkenberg: Podiums the target with Sauber

19 November 2012

Nico Hülkenberg has set his sights on achieving podium finishes with Sauber next year, having opted to join the Swiss squad after a short spell at Force India. The German, who narrowly missed out on a maiden rostrum result in Belgium earlier this season, is highly confident that he has made the correct choice.

"I think I made the right decision by switching to Sauber," Hülkenberg explained to GPUpdate.net. "They proved that they were able to build a good car which is able to finish on the podium.

"Obviously every driver wants to finish on the podium and win races. I hope that next year's car will have the potential to achieve podium finishes again."

After Williams controversially dropped Hülkenberg at the end of his maiden campaign in 2010, Force India gave the 25-year-old a lifeline by handing him a reserve role. The former GP2 Champion returned to the cockpit full-time this year and is 'very happy' with the performances he has delivered alongside current team-mate Paul di Resta.

"Yes, I am very happy with the season," Hülkenberg added of his results. "I think I really learned a lot and improved my performances. Paul is a very strong driver and I think we made a great line-up this year, it's a shame we didn't make it on the podium."

Hülkenberg finished the United States Grand Prix in eighth place, extending his championship advantage over di Resta to seven points ahead of the Interlagos finale.
