Pic signs multi-year deal with Caterham
23 November 2012 – Charles Pic has been officially revealed as one of Caterham's full-time drivers for the 2013 Formula 1 campaign, with the Frenchman signing a multi-year agreement. The 22-year-old's future team-mate is yet to be confirmed.
Having made his Formula 1 debut with Maruissa this year, Pic immediately impressed alongside experience team-mate Timo Glock. Although the latter currently holds the team's personal best result of 12th, Pic has been a match for the German throughout the season - leading Caterham to secure his services.
"I am very proud to confirm that I am joining Caterham F1 Team next year and I'm looking forward to many seasons of successful racing co-operation," said Pic. "It is clear that the team has great ambitions for the future: the investments made and the decisions taken in the last few months show how committed the shareholders are to succeed and demonstrates their willingness to keep going forward.
"I would like to thank Tony Fernandes and Kamarudin Meranun for the roles they have played in helping make this dream come true. I am very excited about starting my second year in F1 with a team that has so much potential.
With Caterham and Marussia now closing in on the midfield battle, Pic is determined to help his new team move further up the grid in 2013.
"Caterham F1 Team has everything in place to help it move into a position to fight with a number of teams ahead," he added. "I know how determined the team is to keep progressing and I am looking forward to playing my part in helping them move up the grid."
Pic's move paves the way for Marussia reserve Max Chilton to be promoted to a race seat next year, with the latter winning races for the squad's GP2 team this season.
