2012 Brazilian Formula 1 Grand Prix: Friday second free practice results

Friday brought one of the busiest days of the 2013 Formula 1 season, as teams were presented with the tasks of trialling next year’s tyres and coping with scorching conditions as well as their usual development work. Sauber ended the day in 14th and 15th positions following some sporting announcements in the morning.

Before the track action began, current reserve driver Esteban Gutiérrez was named as race driver alongside Nico Hülkenberg for next year. The Mexican’s erstwhile role will be occupied by Dutchman Robin Frijns, new Formula Renault 3.5 Champion.

“With regard to today’s programme, everything went well including the evaluation of Pirelli’s tyres for next year,” reported Head of Track Engineering Giampaolo Dall’Ara. “That was important for the 2013 car design.

“With regard to this weekend, we will have a long night ahead of us as we are struggling with the grip, but we have collected a lot of data regarding downforce levels and setup. Now we just have to put it all together to understand where we can find performance and hopefully to be where we want to be.”

The majority of weather forecasters predict thunderstorms for Saturday.
