On the same track where he clinched pole for Williams in 2010 and saw his 2013 Sauber team-mate named as Esteban Gutiérrez today, Nico Hülkenberg completed his final Friday practice sessions with Force India. The German finished in 11th position.
With a personal best lap time of 1:15.131, Hülkenberg was the slowest of the two Force Indias as Paul di Resta was just two thousandths of a second quicker.
“You certainly felt the heat today and the car was quite loose and difficult to drive at times,” the German recalled. “Apart from that it was business as usual – doing the long runs and getting the tyre data. We also had an extra set of the 2013 tyres available this morning, so it was interesting to get a taste for them and do a direct comparison with this year’s tyres.
“It’s difficult to judge where we stand at the moment, but we have all the information we need, so it’s just a case of trying to understand things more tonight.”
The Force India duo was 1.1 seconds down on pace-setter Lewis Hamilton.
