Van der Garde positive over race seat chances
23 November 2012 – Giedo Van der Garde is hopeful that he has done enough to secure a race seat with Caterham in 2013, but admits that nothing can be taken for granted until a contract is signed. The Dutchman says it is now up to his management to try and seal a drive, with Charles Pic being confirmed at the squad on a multi-year deal on Friday morning.
"That's hard to say," Van der Garde told GPUpdate.net when asked about his chances of racing alongside Pic next season. "We are in conversation and it all looks good, but this is Formula 1 and you never know what can arise until signatures are put down. However, I showed that I have speed in me, I sit well with the team and have received good feedback. Now it is up to the managers to ensure that we can get a good deal. We must wait, but we hope that sometime within the next two weeks that good news will come."
Van der Garde was in action at Interlagos on Friday, taking over the wheel of Heikki Kovalainen's car for the opening practice session and finishing ahead of Vitaly Petrov.
"It went well," he added. "I tried the new tyre which will be introduced next year and I must say that I liked it. Interlagos was another new track for me, but it's pretty fast and that suits me. I think I did well. I was faster than my team-mate and we drove on the same programme, so I can feel good about today. It was a nice way to end the year."
