Webber preparing for final leg surgery

1 December 2012

Mark Webber will undergo a final operation on the leg he broke four years ago, with the Australian due to have the remaining pieces of metal support removed this winter.

The Red Bull driver injured himself while competing in his annual Tasmania Challenge in November of 2008, with pins remaining in place for optimal recovery.

"I'm getting some surgery on the leg I broke in a mountain bike accident at the end of 2008," Webber explained to BBC Sport. "It has been planned for ages and I am getting the last bit of metal support taken out of it while I have the chance."

Despite the injury, Webber claimed his maiden F1 victory in 2009. The 36-year-old is set to enter a seventh season with Red Bull, his fifth as Sebastian Vettel's team-mate.
