Vettel receives Laureus Award nomination

13 December 2012

Sebastian Vettel has been nominated for the title of ' Laureus World Sportsman of the Year' following his third successive world title. The Red Bull driver, who beat Fernando Alonso to the 2012 Drivers' crown, faces five rivals in the category.

Vettel, who will go up against Olympic Gold medalists Usain Bolt, Mo Farah, Michael Phelps and Bradley Wiggins plus FC Barcelona's Lionel Messi for the award, became Formula 1's youngest ever triple World Champion with his title triumph this year.

In addition to Vettel's nomination, Red Bull Racing is in the running for 'World Team of the Year', while ex-F1 driver Alex Zanardi, who won two golds and a silver medal at this year's London Paralympics, has been listed in the category for World Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability. The ceremony takes place in Rio de Janeiro on March 11.
