Grosjean: Race of Champions victory very special

17 December 2012

Romain Grosjean has described his Race of Champions victory as 'very special', with the Frenchman ending his season in fine style at the annual event. This year taking place in Bangkok, Thailand, the Lotus F1 driver outraced the likes of Sebastian Vettel, Michael Schumacher and Tom Kristensen en route to the individual title.

"Champion of Champions sounds pretty good," said Grosjean. "It certainly feels pretty good to end my year like this. It wasn’t an easy route to the crown either; I had Sebastian (Vettel) in the quarter final then Michael (Schumacher) in the semi final, then Tom Kristensen in the final. Between those three drivers you’ve got ten Formula 1 titles and eight Le Mans wins! To win against these drivers is very special indeed.

"It’s a really special event and we received a fantastic welcome in Bangkok. It’s superb to relax with so many competitors from different disciplines and we all had a great time. What a way to end my year, by winning my last competition of the season!"

Grosjean is yet to be confirmed by Lotus for the 2013 campaign, but the 26-year-old is widely expected to retain his seat alongside former World Champion Kimi Räikkönen.
