Marussia driver decision surprises Razia

19 December 2012

Luiz Razia, runner-up in GP2 this year, says he was 'caught by surprise' with Marussia's decision to sign Max Chilton for the 2013 season. The Brazilian, who claimed four victories in the feeder series, was hopeful of securing a seat at the team.

"At Lotus we did not have much chance, but with Marussia we were caught by surprise," Razia told Globo Esporte. "Until Monday we were talking to them and they seemed quite open to the idea of me. They said 'we're still deciding' and confirmed Max."

Looking at the remaining seats, with Force India and Caterham yet to confirm their full line-ups, Razia says he still has a chance of appearing on the 2013 grid.

"There are two vacancies, which are Force India and Caterham, that we've been talking to before," Razia confirmed. "Yes, we still have chances."

Razia completed laps for Force India at this year's Young Driver outing at Magny-Cours, before driving Toro Rosso's STR7 during the post-Abu Dhabi Grand Prix test.
