Di Resta: I want podium finishes in 2013
28 December 2012 – Paul di Resta has set his sights on securing podium finishes in 2013, with the Scot eager to prove his worth to the sport's top teams. After two consistent seasons racing for Vijay Mallya's Force India squad, with whom he is almost certain to remain next season, the 26-year-old is yearning for a step forward in performance.
"I certainly want a podium and then I want to be on it again - that's the target," di Resta explained to The Scotsman newspaper. "But I don't want to luck-in to a podium. For me, it has to be a well-earned top three finish, one which we can build on.
"We need to do it on merit and I certainly believe it's achievable. But to do it, we need a car capable of delivering fast, sustainable pace right through not only a race weekend, but also the whole season."
Di Resta added that although he was disappointed not to be picked up by a front-running outfit for 2013, it has made him even more determined to deliver.
"It's just fired me up even more to go out and deliver next season," he added. "You want to be in a car capable of regularly winning races and ultimately championships. All I can do is go out and deliver. If I do that and it attracts a bigger team, then so be it.
"At the moment I'm paid to race for Sahara Force India, and I'll be giving it 100 percent when we line up on the grid for the season opener in Australia."
West Lothian-born di Resta achieved his current best finish of fourth at the 2012 Singapore Grand Prix, crossing the line within four seconds of a place on the podium.
