Kobayashi to drive in Massa kart race

3 January 2013

Kamui Kobayashi has been revealed as the latest entry for Felipe Massa's annual kart race in Brazil. The popular event, entitled the International Challenge of the Stars, will take place at the Beto Carrero karting track on the weekend of 12-13 January.

Kobayashi failed to secure a seat on the 2013 Formula 1 grid after being dropped by Sauber at the end of last season, but he will reunite with some his former on-track rivals next weekend. Alongside the Japanese driver and organiser Massa, well-known faces Fernando Alonso, Pastor Maldonado and Vitantonio Liuzzi will also compete.

In 2009, Brazil's Interlagos circuit was the scene of Kobayashi's F1 debut with the now defunct Toyota outfit. He instantly impressed and moved to Sauber for three campaigns, which included a maiden podium finish at his home race last year. In 2013, the team will field an all-new line-up of Nico Hülkenberg and Esteban Gutiérrez.
