Fernando Alonso won the Wrooom ice kart race on Friday evening, the event which traditionally brings the week of activities in the Dolomite Mountains to an end.
Felipe Massa claimed pole position for the first heat and, after the start, Alonso began to close in. A lap later it appeared to be all over for the Spaniard, who collided with his Ferrari team-mate and slipped to the bottom of the timing screens. However, he refused to give up, fighting back strongly to steal the victory from factory Ducati rider Andrea Dovizioso on the final lap.
During the second, reverse grid race on Madonna di Campiglio's frozen lake, Alonso had little trouble fighting his way through the field. The two-time World Champion went on to claim maximum points, with Giancarlo Fisichella and Massa completing the podium. Marc Gené, Luca Badoer, and Ducati's Nicky Hayden also took part.
Alonso and Massa will now take a short break before travelling to Ferrari's Maranello factory for the launch of the Italian team's 2013 contender on Friday 1 February.
