Red Bull retains Buemi as reserve driver

22 January 2013

Sébastien Buemi has been retained by Red Bull as its test and reserve driver for 2013. The deal, which was expected, will see the 24-year-old complete simulator and development tasks to aid Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber's on-track efforts.

"I know everyone at Red Bull Racing well and it’s good to remain with the team for another year," said the Swiss driver, who has contested a total of 55 Grands Prix in his career. "Of course my aim is to be driving at the races again, but I am still learning all the time from my work with the team. I help with the development of the car and provide feedback throughout the season, both at the factory and at races."

Buemi joined Red Bull as its backup choice last year, having been dropped by Scuderia Toro Rosso at the end of his third Formula 1 season in 2011. He was in the running for a race seat at Force India this season, but fell out of contention in January.
