McLaren Team Principal Martin Whitmarsh has explained that Paddy Lowe will remain with the Woking-based outfit for at least the 2013 season, despite the acclaimed engineer's absence from the launch of the new MP4-28 on Thursday.
Long-time McLaren member Lowe has been linked to a Mercedes switch in recent weeks but, putting the speculation to rest, Whitmarsh stated that a move will not be happening in the near future. In addition, the 54-year-old says it was Lowe's decision to avoid the team's car presentation, thus reducing the risk of mass media attention.
McLaren is now gearing up for the pre-season testing phase which begins at Jerez next Tuesday, before travelling to Barcelona for a pair of four-day gatherings.
