'F1 W04 a big step forward' – Rosberg

4 February 2013

Nico Rosberg has described the new Mercedes F1 W04 chassis as 'a big, big step forward' over its predecessor, with the German getting his first taste of the car at Jerez on Monday. Following the run, which was primarily aimed at collecting video footage, the 27-year-old had plenty of positive words to describe his time behind the wheel.

"It was amazing, it was really good," Rosberg told Sky Sports News. "The conditions are brilliant here and the important thing is I got in and felt at home straightaway - my steering position was optimal and everything worked. There were no issues and I could attack straightaway flat-out - it was very nice.

"There are a lot of differences (from the F1 W03) - aerodynamically, obviously, around the back it is quite different and the nose section aerodynamically and visually is much better. Those are really the main things, but this car is a big, big step forward for us."

Rosberg will complete his first fully fledged runs in the F1 W04 on Tuesday. The former GP2 Champion is scheduled to drive at Jerez on 5 and 7 February, with new team-mate Lewis Hamilton being allocated the second and fourth days of the test.
