Toro Rosso targets sixth in 2013 standings
4 February 2013 – Scuderia Toro Rosso has ambitiously set its sights on securing sixth place in the 2013 Constructors’ Championship, having finished ninth in last year’s standings.
Speaking at the launch of the STR8 on Monday, Team Principal Franz Tost says the Italian outfit has pushed hard over the winter break to close the deficit and is hopeful that its recent technical reshuffle will pay dividends when the season gets underway.
"We also have some people in different roles this year, as well as bringing some new blood into the Toro Rosso family," Tost explained. "James Key has been with us as Technical Director for six months now, while Chief Designer Luca Furbatto has been in Faenza for just over a year and the STR8 is the first car to be penned by him and his design team.
"We have worked hard and hopefully done a good job. The three test sessions in Spain will begin to reveal some trends among the teams, but until we all line up on a race grid, there will be no clear picture of what we can expect. Nevertheless, we have set ourselves a target of finishing sixth in the Constructors’ classification."
Since its 2006 birth, sixth place stands as Toro Rosso's highest Constructors' classification. This was achieved in 2008 when Sébastien Bourdais and Sebastian Vettel - who won that year's Italian Grand Prix - accumulated a total of 39 points. At the end of 2012, the Red Bull junior outfit finished 100 points away from a top six spot.
