Toro Rosso's Daniel Ricciardo ticked off all of the items on his initial testing check list at the Circuito de Jerez on Tuesday, getting behind the wheel of the new STR8 chassis for the first time. The Australian enjoyed incident-free morning and afternoon sessions at the Spanish circuit, racking up 70 laps en route to fifth on the timesheets.
"It’s good to be back behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car," Ricciardo said of his day at Jerez. "It was a long day to complete 70 laps, however, the main thing is that the car was reliable, which is a positive aspect and we got through our work schedule for the day.
"You cannot look at performance on the first day, when reliability and comfort are more important and, on that front, my seat and driving positions were good. This was a day of tasks that were simple but important."
Ricciardo will conclude his half of Toro Rosso's opening pre-season test on Wednesday, before handing the STR8 over to ongoing team-mate Jean-Éric Vergne.
