Byrne helping Ferrari with 2014 car design

11 February 2013

Rory Byrne, the designer whose cars took Michael Schumacher to all seven of his Formula 1 world titles, is working with Ferrari on the development of its 2014 car.

The South African, who attended the launch of the F138 chassis earlier this month, retired from his full-time F1 role at the end of 2006. He worked with Schumacher at Benetton and Ferrari, but has since been acting as a consultant for the Italian marque.

On the subject of the F138, Germany's Auto Motor und Sport quoted the 69-year-old as saying: "It's a nice car, but compared to what awaits us in 2014, it's all child's play."

Simone Resta is leading the development of Ferrari's 2013 car, while Fabio Montecchi concentrates on 2014. Both men report directly to design chief Nicolas Tombazis.
