DTM deal does not materialise for Kubica
20 February 2013 – Robert Kubica will not contest the upcoming DTM campaign, it has been confirmed. The Pole had expressed an interest in securing a deal after a successful test in the Mercedes AMG C-Coupé at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, but the marque has handed the final seat to Formula 3 Euro Series Champion Daniel Juncadella.
Although Kubica has made massive progress since his horrific rally accident in early 2011, the 28-year-old expressed a few concerns about the movement in his right elbow after his DTM test. Having initially considered joining the category, he is now expected to focus his efforts on a deal for the European Rally Championship.
In 2013, Mercedes will run former Champion Gary Paffett, ex-Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher plus Roberto Merhi, Daniel Juncadella, Christian Vietoris and Robert Wickens in the DTM series. David Coulthard and Susie Wolff have both departed, while 2004 Formula 3 Euro Series Champion Jamie Green heads to rivals Audi.
