DTM deal does not materialise for Kubica

20 February 2013

Robert Kubica will not contest the upcoming DTM campaign, it has been confirmed. The Pole had expressed an interest in securing a deal after a successful test in the Mercedes AMG C-Coupé at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, but the marque has handed the final seat to Formula 3 Euro Series Champion Daniel Juncadella.

Although Kubica has made massive progress since his horrific rally accident in early 2011, the 28-year-old expressed a few concerns about the movement in his right elbow after his DTM test. Having initially considered joining the category, he is now expected to focus his efforts on a deal for the European Rally Championship.

In 2013, Mercedes will run former Champion Gary Paffett, ex-Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher plus Roberto Merhi, Daniel Juncadella, Christian Vietoris and Robert Wickens in the DTM series. David Coulthard and Susie Wolff have both departed, while 2004 Formula 3 Euro Series Champion Jamie Green heads to rivals Audi.
