Lotus 'well placed' ahead of final gathering
22 February 2013 – According to Trackside Operations Director Alan Permane, Lotus is in a strong position prior to the final pre-season test in Barcelona next week. Despite technical troubles striking Kimi Räikkönen's car early in the week, the team bounced back to cover plenty of dry and wet mileage with Romain Grosjean on the final two days.
"Discretion was the better part of valour today; we evaluated performance on the Wet and Intermediate tyres as well as running a collection of non-weather affected data correlation programmes," Permane commented. "We were successful in these objectives and are well placed heading into next week's test.
"Romain reported the E21 to be a step forwards from its predecessor in terms of wet weather performance. Being the slowest of those who set times is not representative of where we are, as we did not run seriously when there were drier conditions."
With just four more days of track time before the opening race, Lotus will be bringing a package of aerodynamic parts to its E21 next week in a final push for performance.
"It's nice to complete a test at a second circuit with only positive things to say about the car," Permane said of the team's latest design. "We look forward to four more days testing here, starting next week when we will evaluate a package of new aero parts."
