Gerard López, head of Lotus team owners Genii Capital, paid £22,000 for a pair of racing gloves once worn by the late Ayrton Senna at a charity auction on Monday night.

The gloves, used in Senna's third and final title-winning year of 1991, were donated by Jo Ramirez, a former McLaren team member and close friend of the Brazilian driver.

Staged at the Motor Sport Hall of Fame event at the Royal Opera House in London, the auction raised a total of £92,000 for the Grand Prix Mechanics Charitable Trust.
