Jaafar to drive F1 car in Kuala Lumpur

28 February 2013

Jazeman Jaafar, a member of the Petronas Talent Programme, will get behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car for the first time in his home city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Sunday 17 March. The 20-year-old, who finished runner-up to Jack Harvey in the 2012 British Formula 3 Championship, has been handed the outing by Mercedes.

Jaafar's demonstration run will come as part of a special promotional event for Mercedes title sponsor Petronas, taking place one week before the Malaysian Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit. The Formula Renault 3.5 driver is due to complete mileage in the Brackley-based team's simulator as a means of preparation.

"It’s difficult to describe the emotions I had when I was told by Petronas that I would be given the chance to drive for the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team," Jaafar commented. "I’m happy, excited, proud and impatient for 17 March! I am very grateful to Petronas for their support and putting their faith in me to put on a good show."

Jaafar, whose run will come amid the backdrop of the famous Petronas towers, is set to share driving duties with Mercedes Development Driver Sam Bird during the event.
