Although Jenson Button has taken on more of a leading role at McLaren since Lewis Hamilton's exit, he reckons new team-mate Sergio Pérez has had a major part to play in the development of team's latest contender throughout testing.
The Briton, who is preparing to enter his fourth season with the Woking-based outfit, says at times the former Sauber driver's feedback has been more important.
"After the departure of Lewis and the arrival of Sergio, I have been able to put my stamp on the car, but as soon as you put it on the circuit it's equal," Button told media, including GPUpdate.net. "You both have the same amount of days. Checo's feedback is just as important. Sometimes you would say his feedback is more important.
"He has come from another team and we all know that at his previous team he was very good on the tyres. There are positives to take from that."
Button, who has been heavily praised in the past for his ability to extract a significant amount of laps from one set of tyres, believes he will be able to learn even more from Pérez throughout the 2013 campaign.
"Checo knows how to drive a car for a long period of time with low degradation," Button commented. "It's interesting to hear his views on that. It could help me too."
Button heads to Melbourne having won three of the last four races at the street venue; 12 months ago he beat Red Bull rival Sebastian Vettel to the chequered flag.
