Williams also sends condolences to Venezuela

6 March 2013

Following on from Pastor Maldonado's messages of support, Williams has also sent its condolences to the family of the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez. The 58-year-old, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2011, died on Tuesday.

"In the wake of yesterday's announcement that Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías, President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, has passed away after a long battle with cancer, the Williams F1 Team sends its deepest condolences to the family of President Chávez and the people of Venezuela," reads the full Williams statement.

Chávez had played a key role in Maldonado's career, aiding his Formula 1 graduation two years ago by allowing oil company PDVSA to enter a deal with Williams.
