Max Chilton was in a positive mood following his full race weekend debut for Marussia in Melbourne on Friday, explaining that his team is showing 'some real promise' in relation to its rivals. The Briton, who contested one free practice session in Abu Dhabi last year, is confident that outpacing Caterham will be a genuine possibility.
"Our objective was to learn the Albert Park track as quickly as possible and then start to gather plenty of information with the car and the tyres, so I’m pretty happy with what we’ve achieved in terms of the programme," Chilton commented.
"Now we can start to piece that together a little more to focus on outright performance and I think on Saturday we will have a clearer idea of where we stand versus the cars around us. Even at this early stage though I’m sure we can feel positive about where we are in relation to our immediate competitors and the car has shown some real promise."
Bianchi led Marussia's charge with an advantage of 0.469 seconds over Caterham's Charles Pic on Friday, with Chilton and Giedo van der Garde bringing up the rear.
