Räikkönen optimistic over Lotus upgrades
5 April 2013 – Kimi Räikkönen is hoping that a series of car upgrades will boost Lotus’s chances at the upcoming Chinese Grand Prix, with minor modifications being made to the front wing, rear wing endplates and sidepod vanes of the E21 chassis.
Having claimed victory in the season-opening Australian Grand Prix, Räikkönen could only manage a seventh place finish amid mixed weather conditions at Sepang. However, if the rain stays away in Shanghai, the Finn is confident of a return to form.
"We didn’t achieve any points there last year so we can only improve from that," said Räikkönen. "I have been first, second and third in Shanghai in previous years so it would be nice to add to that list.
"There’s no reason why we shouldn’t go well there; we have some new parts for the E21 and the last upgrades we had seemed to help so it will be interesting to see what will happen if it doesn’t rain."
Räikkönen's results from the opening two races leave him second in the overall standings on a total of 31 points, nine behind current leader Sebastian Vettel.
