Perez hails 'incredible effort' at McLaren
5 April 2013 – Sergio Pérez has described an ‘incredible effort’ from McLaren as it bids to bounce back from a challenging start to the campaign, admitting that he has been slightly taken aback by the team’s swift response to the MP4-28’s design flaws.
With a break of almost three weeks separating the respective Malaysian and Chinese Grands Prix, Pérez says the Woking-based outift has been taking full advantage.
"I think there’s been a little time to breathe after the first two races of the season," said Pérez. "That’s been important for us, as we’ve been able to get back to (McLaren Technology Centre) MTC and really throw all our efforts behind the modifications we need to make the car perform more consistently.
"For me, it’s been incredible to not only see the speed of the team’s reaction, but also the positive way that everyone has pulled together to make those changes. It’s been an incredible team effort."
Admitting that the opening two races were well below McLaren’s standards, Pérez believes the team is already well on its way to rectifying its fundamental car issues.
"I feel there’s a lot of positivity within the team," Pérez explained. "We know that we somewhat under-performed in Australia and Malaysia, but, Jenson and I nonetheless managed to score some points. I’m really looking forward to China – it’s a great track with a little bit of everything – and I think it’ll be a good test of the car."
