Félix da Costa gets Red Bull reserve role
9 April 2013 – António Félix da Costa will assume the role of Red Bull reserve driver in China, with Sébastien Buemi unable to undertake his duties as he is taking part in the opening round of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) at Silverstone.
Félix da Costa, who won the second race of the Formula Renault 3.5 season at Monza last Sunday, will provide backup for Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber plus Toro Rosso's Jean-Éric Vergne and Daniel Ricciardo, should illness or injury arise.
Although the Portuguese driver has not contested an official practice session, he took part in the Young Driver test with Red Bull at the end of 2012. The 21-year-old topped the second day of running and completed extensive mileage in the RB8 chassis.
Félix da Costa is also set to carry out reserve driver duties at the Singapore Grand Prix in September, with the WEC field competing in parallel at the Circuit of the Americas.
